MayDay: What Are You Doing to Prepare?

Being based in Los Angeles,  heritage organizations locally know that disasters can and do strike at any time. From earthquakes to floods to fires to localized disasters like power-outages, emergencies may not be preventable, but the impact on your organization can be minimized.

May 1st is celebrated as MayDay, a day for heritage organizations (among others) to do something to prepare for emergencies and disasters. Coordinated by the Heritage Emergency National Task Force, which is co-sponsored by Heritage Preservation and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, MayDay is a reminder that your organizations should have plans for emergencies.

Check out their website for more information, and you can also visit http://www.shakeout.org/2008/museums/ for earthquake related information specific to Southern California.
